Awards will be given on the basis of academic performance during the previous
year and on the basis of need. Any student in second, third or fourth year
and taking a Specialist Programme offered by the Departments of Mathematics,
Physics, Statistics or Computer Science is eligible.
The Steacie Fellowship is awarded by NSERC to researchers
who are not more than 12 years from their PhD for outstanding
scientific achievements which have earned them an international
reputation.
Congratulations to Professor Bálint Virág, who is among 100 outstanding young
scientists nationwide who recently were selected to receive Sloan Research Fellowships.
The Sloan Research Fellowship Program, sponsored by the New York-based Alfred P.
Sloan Foundation, was established in 1955. Fellows are selected from a pool of the
nation's best young scientists. Each fellowship includes an unrestricted grant of
$35,000.
